Open Command Window Here
Open Command Window Here is a free shell extension that helps users quickly dispatch the command prompt right within any folder via the context menu. It provides a significant boost to productivity and is ideal for anyone who demands efficiency and speed from their computer.
The application can be used with all versions of Windows and offers complete support for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. In order to activate the software users will have to modify the registry with the help of a REG file. The process may not be too difficult for most users but it is still recommended to back up the registry prior to making any changes.
After the modifications are made to the registry, the user will have the option of adding the "Open Command Prompt Here" context menu item to any folder. This will allow users to easily access the most common tools, including ping, tracert, and ipconfig. The program is very light on system resources and doesn't slow down computer performance or interfere with other programs' functionality.
For those who may have upgraded their computer to the Creators Update, the Command Prompt option has been removed from the Win+X menu but it is not impossible to get it back. By using the registry method, this is easily done with minimal effort. Simply follow the instructions and make sure to change the DWORD value HideBasedOnVelocityId to ShowBasedOnVelocityId. This will restore the context menu item to any folder in Windows 10. Once this is done, the user can use shift while right-clicking in a folder to display the Command Prompt Here option.
